The June installment of the Lake Wappapello Division of U.S. Anglers’ Choice took off Saturday out of host marina Chaonia Landing. 39 teams participated. The weather cooperated with clear skies and air temps in the low 80s for a high. The lake level was at Summer Pool 359.8 and clearing. Colton Jennings and Warren Manion finished the day on top of the field with a five fish limit that weighed 20.11 pounds with a 7.53-pound big bass kicker.
“We started upriver on the edge of the channel and got the big fish on a fast-moving bait, but for the numbers we had to slow down and fished slow from shallow to deep,” said Manion. “We caught fish all day,” he said. They took home $2100 plus trophies for first place with an additional $390 for big bass, bringing their total take home to $2490 plus trophies.
Jake Harris and TC Jennings took Second place honors at the end of the day. Their limit of fish weighed 18.74 pounds. “We fished upriver from Chaonia all day,” said Harris. “We fished the edge of the channel in eight to ten feet of water with a jig.” He added. “We pretty much caught fish all day. When the bite slowed down, we would just wait them out until they started biting again.” The second-place team took home $1130 plus trophies.
Colton and Jamie Thurston took third place with a limit of fish that weighed 17.87 pounds and earned them $820 plus trophies. “We caught fish all day with a jig and had to work our way up from a bunch of little ones we started with, but we ended up with some pretty good ones,” said Jamie Thurston.
Kevin Brotherton and Nick Gibbons weighed in a 17.25-pound limit of fish that was worth $535 for fourth place.
Clay Francis and Todd Boyd caught a 16.42-pound limit of fish good for $325.
